Mana is the life energy that exists in all living beings on Mysteria. There are four different types of mana that exist; Water, Fire, Earth, and Wind. Runes are crystallized mana most commonly formed naturally in the land near mana outlet vents from the Leylines. Runes are also byproducts of High Magic Artes, formed because of the massive amount of mana used in order to cast them. Often when a Spirit perishes the mana they are composed of will either dissipate or condense into a large Rune commonly referred to as a Fossil Rune, sometimes containing lingering memories.
Runes are only stable if it is composed of one mana type. A Rune with multiple types of mana is referred to as an Aurora Rune. Aurora Runes are more unstable the more types of mana that are in it and can explode disastrously if damaged in any way. Aurora Runes do not form outside the Leylines naturally, they can only be produced by artificial means and certain High Magic Artes with high concentrations of multiple elemental mana.
